Contract for Maison Margiela
Venice, Italy
March 12, 2024
The creation of the new Maison Margiela boutique in Venice (2023) enabled this brand’s identity – that of unmistakable deconstructed silhouettes – and the unique atmosphere of the city to enhance each other through the combination of refined materials.
In line with Maison’s design idea and the historic location, Contract continued the dialogue between the building and the brand, creating a contemporary and sophisticated space in the wonderful setting of Piazza San Marco.
A historic place that enhances Maison Margiela’s iconic collections through careful restoration and precious accessories.
Paying respect to the identity of the location, the external façade’s historical insignia were meticulously replicated: inside wooden frames, the gilded name of the French Maison stands out on the black back-painted glass bottom. In harmony with the other buildings in the square, the burnished brass effect metal frame windows, and the color used for the door and fixtures, replicate the portico.
The use of handmade marble – a key element of the project – as well as an elegant monochrome palette, create a pleasantly evocative space in which to look out onto Piazza San Marco from an elegant sofa. Of the accessories created for the interior of Maison Margiela, the plaster tables, with their woven textures and two curved, tapering marble and glass counters, stand out.
In harmony with the other elements of the design, the boutique’s Venetian terrace floor celebrates the local artisanal tradition.
