ECLA Noisy-le-grand environmentally sustainable materials

The presentation of the project carried out by Contract Srl on the ECLA Noisy-le-grand campus continues. Today, we are excited to share with you more about the environmentally sustainable materials we used in the project. Here’s a focus on three materials we are proud to have incorporated in our work: Le Pavé, Fab.BRICK and re-used brass.

Le Pavé is a versatile, durable, and sustainable material made entirely of plastic waste that has been recovered and transformed locally. The material is known for its strength, resistance to wear and tear, and its ability to be sawn, drilled, sanded, and thermoformed to fit a variety of different applications.

In the dining area of the ECLA Paris campus, we chose to use Le Pavé for the bar counter. The material’s malleability made it easy to create a design that seamlessly integrates with the rest of the room’s minimalist aesthetic. Its durability and resistance to wear and tear make it an ideal choice for high-traffic areas like the bar counter.

Fab.BRICK is an innovative material created by French architect Clarisse Merlet. It utilizes textile waste to produce bricks, reducing textile waste in landfills and repurposing it for construction purposes. The material’s natural properties of thermal and acoustic insulation make it a suitable choice for partition walls, decoration, and other uses. The bricks are made by fusing discarded textile fabrics with bio-ecological glue, making it a cost and labor-efficient method of upcycling materials. Fab.BRICK was the perfect fit for the reception lounge walls.

Around 4 million tons of textile waste are produced in Europe every year, and only 32.5% of clothes in the French market are gathered by recycling agencies annually. Fab.BRICK is helping to keep clothing waste in circulation and out of landfills, while also utilizing existing material qualities in a new sector and for a novel application.

In addition to Fab.BRICK, we also used re-used brass in the reception desk design. By incorporating these eco-friendly materials in the project, we were able to create a unique and functional interior space that meets the needs of the students while reducing our impact on the environment.

Stay tuned for more updates on the ECLA Noisy-le-grand campus project, where we continue to incorporate sustainable materials into our designs.
